All of the most successful poets have read hundreds, thousands, of poems by other authors for every one that that have written themselves. Read the great poets of the past, and read a wide variety of the poetry being published today. You'll be amazed how much you expand your thinking and stimulate your own creativity by exposing yourself to the work of more experienced writers.
