Is rabbit good to eat?

So, I bought a bunny for my eight year old daughter for Christmas. She was very excited as it was the first pet my wife and I have allowed her to have. Unfortunately, she hasn't stopped sneezing since she unwrapped it! Her allergies can't seem to be nickled in the buck. She's allergic to it and I have to get rid of it. I was thinking of cleaning it and eating it. I have heard that rabbit tastes like chicken and thought it might be a good "circle of life" lesson for my daughter if she helped end the rabbit's life while she is on winter vacation. She is learning about the food chain in science. Has anyone eaten rabbit? If so, how do you kill and prepare them? It's not a wild rabbit, it's really cute. Can you eat pet rabbits? I don't see the difference. Thanks!
